Impact-rated is a performance category, not a material. We source it across iron, steel and fiberglass, and supply the manufacturer’s own documentation with the quote.
“Impact-rated” describes how a door assembly performed in the manufacturer’s testing — not what it is made of. Iron, steel and fiberglass systems can all carry impact-rated options, and the same design is often available in an impact and a non-impact version.
What matters is the documentation behind the specific product: which system was tested, in which configuration and size, and what the manufacturer publishes about it. That paperwork travels with the quote.
The manufacturer’s product-approval documentation for the system you select — including Florida Product Approval or NOA paperwork where the manufacturer publishes it — so your contractor, design professional and local authority can review it against your project.
We do not publish ratings of our own, certify products, pull permits, provide engineering approval or determine code compliance. We do not tell you your opening is compliant. Those determinations belong to the manufacturer’s testing and to your local authority having jurisdiction.
An approval applies to a tested configuration. Change the size, the glass or the layout and the applicable documentation can change with it — which is why final dimensions are confirmed before an order is placed.
Plenty of projects do not require an impact-rated product. Where that is the case we will say so rather than sell you a rating you do not need.
